AbstractThis study is carried out to look into the reasons behind high loss profile of MEPCO. The problems of the company which are main cause of its non—sustainability were analyzed. The success stories of contemporary distribution companies operative in the developing world who were in the same scenario of socio-economic condition, how they come up was studied in detail. By choosing the best practices and strategies these companies have Opted, the study recommended MEPCO‘ what strategies and what best operational practices it should be having for its sustainability. This report suggests a mix from the experiences of the best operators in the developing countries. Thus report giving number of steps that MEPCO should take to become state of the art distribution operator. it will ensure more satisfaction, reliable, quality services to its customers as well as will fulfill its responsibility towards GHG emissions. Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) can learn in wider prospect from distribution companies who made a success story in loss reduction in the developing countries. The loss ofthe company is analyzed to find out the actual T&D loss of the company. The losses without the impact of MV and RV power distribution to big consumers and overbilling to domestic and tube well consumers were scrutinized to find out actual loss of the company. The technical loss reduction techniques through applying Energy Management System and non-technical loss reduction through automation techniques were featured as the main mechanism for loss reduction. However, a strategic approach to keep holistic and heuristic operational mechanism is also suggested to keep a balance between all stakeholders and controlling all internal and external variables affecting overall performance of the company. The report provides a strategic roadmap for performance enhancement of the company in broader terms.
