AbstractToday's Information Technology (IT) projects present unique challenges to the project manager requiring coordination with many stakeholders and integration of various technological capabilities. To achieve IT project success, on key mechanism is software which is integrated to support the efficient operation of business processes. Software is viewed as the magic box that is able to do anything as business requirement. Many companies strive to purchase software to make their business more competitive so many software companies take place to grasp an opportunity. Software project becomes more and more important key role to improve a business process. However, the implementation of software project actually is an extremely complex task. Critical Success Factors are employed to enhance the success of software projects. This research study attempts to find out the critical success factors for software project in Thailand. A conceptual framework is developed based on the previous research studies on project success factors. Then, qualitative technique which is survey was conducted to collect the data on success factor for software project in project managers' viewpoint in order access critical success factors and construct applicable CSFs framework. Finally, results would be analysed to draw the lesson learned. The results reveal that a comprehensive list of CSFs of software projects selected from literatures and results of surveys. Although, there are slightly different critical success factors from previous literature, this list of CSFs for software project is applicable in Thai context. As a result, all of these CSFs should be considered to include in the conceptual framework of CSFs of software project.
