Abstract | Fish seed supply plays an important role in aquaculture development because they act to enhance and promote fish seed availability often over wide areas. The provision of fish seed for farmers is a key institutional focus for agencies and organizations to use for promoting aquaculture. In Vientiane Municipality, Lao PDR, This study attempted to review these efforts within the context of the wider fish seed supply system in rural areas. A survey was carried out in order to understand, describe and analysis fish seed production from Government hatchery, Private hatcheries, Fish seed nursers and fanners in Vientiane Municipality in order to develop recommendations on how seed supply can be more effectively supported. There were four interview based survey carried out in this study. The government hatchery (n = 2), Private hatchery (n = 3), fish seed nursers at village (n = 15) and fish farmers (n = 15). The surveys were based on two kinds of data: 1. Secondary data using data research from book, journal, reports of the project. 2. Primary data using the format questionnaire to interview fish seed producers and fish farmers. The results showed that fish seed supply has had a positive impact on aquaculture deveIOpment in Vientiane Municipality. The results from the survey showed that the fish seed supplied to grow- out farmers got fish seed from Private hatcheries (39%), Government hatcheries (29 %), fish seed nursers (21 %) and from others source (11%). The number of fingerings produced has increased substantially, adding to the supply of seed available in Vientiane Municipality.
