AbstractIn order to find the ripple geometry in the ane basin in the presence of two different types of jetty (straight jetty and crank jetty) and without jetty, the hydraulic model experiment have been conducted. The ripple geometry and water depth was measured in each model after every 0 hours upto 16 hours at selected ten points in the wave basin. The wave was generated 0: the height 2 cm. and periOd 01 0.85 sec. and was Kept constant throughout the experiment in all the models. Effects oi wave retraction and wave reflection are neglected because it is found that at this steepness and beach slope there is no breaking in the wave. Linear ane theory is used for finding the near bottom velocity anu Other calculations. It has been found that the change in the shape 01 the jetty has not much effect on the ripple geometry tor the saee particular wave height and periOd and also for the same type and size oi sand. It 15 also found that when the bed shear stress or the amplitude of the Water particle motion relative to the sediment 5129 are small the resulting vortices are more regular with low turbulence inten 51th and the generated ripples are two dimenSional; they are called growing or vortex ripples. At the Other extreme, when the bed shear stress or the amplitude ot the water particle motion relative to the sediment Size is large, the resulting vortices are very irregular with high turbulence inten51ty, and the generated ripples are three dimenSional; they are called decaying or turbulent ripples which was correlated with the amplitude or water particle motion.
