AbstractFDM ConSett software was developed for prediction of pore water pressure and differential settlement in shallow clay layers created by drawdowns in Bangkok aquifers as well as surcharge load. The calculation is based on Terzaghi’s one dimensional consolidation theory using the Crank-Nicholson scheme. The software is written in Visual Basic Language with graphic user interface (GUI) input form and output routed to Microsoft Excel. The software was tested for its application and limitation and it is found out that the calculated results are comparable with the measured data at available subsidence monitoring stations. The results of the analysis also suggest that land subsidence of shallow clay layer in the Bangkok area is the result of drawdown in first sand layer that developed within the last 50 years. The software is useful for prediction of differential settlement of shallow clay layer in future development works in Bangkok area.
