Abstract | The main purpose of controlling the overload in the network is to protect the deterioration of the network while retaining the high throughput. The control process is evoked when detecting the congestion in processing node. The method of throttling mechanism is used to restrain the arrival queries of the services from the users in order to lessen the traffic congestion in the network. The overload can take place in any different part of the network which the overload protection mechanisms are necessary. In the preceding work, the various congestion control mechanisms are evaluated in order to maximize the throughput when the overload occurs. The overload control mechanisms for standard telephony and Intelligent Network services are evaluated separately. For standard telephony, the congestion control in the signaling system is investigated whereas in intelligent network service, the control is taken place in intelligent network call processing. In this thesis, the cooperation of the overload control procedures when there is the mixing of standard telephony and [N queries is studied. The effect of different traffic characteristics, additional IN call processing and congestion control to the performance of the network are investigated and compared. The congestion control can improve the network throughput while decreases the delay in the congested network nodes. They throttle the new request of services whilst maintain the further process of queries which are served by the network. |
