AbstractA study of safe use of pesticide knowledge, practices and perceptions among small tangerine growers was conducted in order to investigate the pesticide use and prevention practices in Fang district, Chiang Mai province in northern Thailand which is the main domestic source of high-quality tangerine in the country. The analysis of household survey responses showed that nearly 90% of the tangerine growers received information on safe pesticide use from the handbook published by the Department of Agricultural Extension and the WHO guidelines. But it was only 36% of them who pursued all 28 lists of prevention practices every time they used pesticides. In addition, 87.8 % of the tangerine growers used Methomyl which is on the watch list chemicals. It was found that farming experience, pesticides use experience and attendance in training program contributed at significant level between the groups who did not have such experiences (p<0.05). Moreover, it was detected that perceptions of IPM practices did not affect the differences of tangerine growers' perceptions on pesticide health harmful effects (p<0.05).
