AbstractEnergy is most precious gift of nature which need to be used carefully through its efficient and effective use. Electricity is most useful form of energy required in fulfillment of many daily human activities. To ensure efficient use of electricity, utilities and communities in developed countries have adopted, managed and implemented different DSM activities. Developing countries are lacking behind and need to have firm initiatives towards adopting and implementing DSM activities. Electricity distribution system in developing countries is facing lot of issues including high transmission and distribution losses, theft of electricity, overloading of distribution system, growing demand and many more. This research study focuses on selecting technically suitable and financially viable DSM activities for improving performance of electricity distribution system in terms of reduction in non technical loss and overloading of distribution system .DSM activities were used by different electric power utilities in World and found that their benefits are not hard and fast. Researchers have recommended to go beyond the perceived benefits and find out other potential benefits associated with DSM activities. Technically suitable DSM activities have been selected through TNA process. Financial viability of selected DSM activities have been carried out though evaluating Payback Period, NPV and IRR. Implementing technically suitable and financially viable DSM activities could save electricity, minimize waste of electricity, reduce NTL, reduce GHG emissions, provide relief to existing distribution system, increase revenues and control demand. Based on the utilities experiences and researchers recommendations it could be found that implementing DSM activities is a financially viable investment. Research study could be a motivating tool for electric power utilities in developing countries to get rid of above mentioned issues through DSM activities in a financially viable and acceptable way.
