AbstractHow much content an individual is with his or her job is what we call job satisfaction. The Project on Measuring Job Satisfaction in Power Distribution Sector of Pakistan has been selected due to the vital importance of this sector on the economy, society and all other walks of life in Pakistan. The ongoing energy crises in Pakistan has increased the importance of this project for PEPCO(Pakistan Electric Power Company), which is the sole authority and company, responsible for power distribution in Pakistan. The actual purpose of this research was to measure and access the level of job satisfaction among the front line and key employee of PEPCO are acting and working is the front line manager in power distribution sector of Pakistan. Two companies i.e. GEPCO and LESCO were selected in order to measure the job satisfaction level among employees of PEPCO. Then by adopting the “stratified random sampling technique”,100 Assistant Manager Operation were selected from GEPCO and similarly 100 Assistant Manager Operation were selected from LESCO, thus making a total sample of 200from the total population of the Assistant Manager Operation in both companies. The sample that was taken for measuring job satisfaction had the same education level i.e. Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and age was between 26 to 40 years. The data were collected through the distribution of the questionnaire(Likert Scale) through personal contacts, via mail and telephonic interview by adopting descriptive research design. The data were processed and analyzed using descriptive statistics and represented in the form of pie –diagrams. The overall results of the survey clearly highlights that the employees of PEPCO are dissatisfied with their job as they are not satisfied with their pay, non-monetary benefits, promotion system and policies, attitudes of the top management, attitudes of the co-workers and the policies of the top management. Employees were under constant work and public stress and were overburdened. In PEPCO, overall, only 5% were highly satisfied, 10% were satisfied, 19% were neither satisfied nor dissatisfied, 54% of the employees were dissatisfied and 12% were highly dissatisfied with their job. The results of the sampled employees clearly indicates that the employees of PEPCO are not at all satisfied with their job and are un-willing and half hearted to continue their services with PEPCO which represents the power distribution sector of Pakistan. As the level of job dissatisfaction is very high, it is highly recommended that the Top Management of PEPCO should immediately take remedial measures. These include introducing and implementing different packages and incentives for employees, increase in pays, fringe benefits, timely promotions, more non-monetary benefits, better working environment, better communication and opportunities for career and skill development so that employees could feel satisfied and perform their duties more effectively and efficiently
