Series Statement
AbstractThis paper presents a methodology for quantifying the worth or benefit of electric service reliability to estimate the residential customer interruption costs (monetary losses) associated with electric power supply interruptions. The customer outage costs are calculated by direct methods of outage impacts, customers preparatory actions during outages and customers willingness to pay factors through questionnaire development and presentation to a small group of residential consumers. The residential customer damage model is developed for their peak energy demand and consumption. The annual financial losses incurred by the LESCO and its residential consumers, due to value of loss of load / electric energy not served assessment are taken as basis for the future investments for improving reliability and quality of electric supply through reduction in the frequency and duration of outages. The benefits of reliability worth can be evaluated by the comparison in reduction of SAIFI and SAIDI indices annually.
