Abstract | The present demand supply gap in power sector of Pakistan has been increasing rapidly for last many years. The increase in supply side has not been realized due to financial and political problems in the country. It is need of hour that apart from increasing the supply side, attention should be diverted to demand side management also. Demand side management provide excellent solution to reduce demand supply gap. Demand side management is collection of activities to change the consumption behavior of the customers. Utilities can formulate demand side management programs and initiatives with the objective of providing sustainable and reliable supply to its customers. The implementation of demand side management programs has benefits for utilities, customers and environment. Lighting based demand side management program provides lucrative solution to reduce the demand of electricity. Many countries have developed and implemented demand side management initiatives. Lighting based demand side management programs have been implemented by many countries. In this study, demand side management programs implemented in other countries have been studied, based on lessons learned from the experience of those countries measures have been proposed and estimated benefits have been calculated for MEPCO, customer and environment. |
