AbstractThai Automotive Human Resource Development Project (TAHRDP) has been developed by Thai Auto Institute since 2005 to support the government policy that promoting Thailand to become the “Detroit of Asia” in automotive industry. The TAHRDP is a cooperative project between Thai-Japanese governments and automotive manufacturers to improve engineering, production, and molding technology. Additionally the TAHRDP can solve the shortage of skilled labour problem by enhancing high quality of work, minimized cost and on time delivery. Unfortunately the TAHRDP is not well-known among small-medium automotive manufacturers and vocational colleges. For this reason, workforces’ skill developments are difficult therefore the shortage of skilled labour has occurred. To cope with this problem, the collaborati on between industrial sectors and academic sectors should be implemented. The TAHR DP should be effectively communicated throughout vocational colleges and auto manufacturers as much as possible. This project study has been done to evaluate perceptions of the TAHRDP among Thai vocational colleges and identify their feed back on future potential participation by launching 300 questionnaires to the head of mechanical department throughout Thai vocational colleges. There are 171 participants that have been analyzed. The survey results shown that 46% of those vocational colleges are not understand clearly about the project and 23% of them have never know about the TAHRDP. Perceptions of the TAHRDP are recognized by Thai Auto Institute website, news from automotive magazines and word of mouth from people who work in automotive industry. Those vocational colleges also have positive respond to collaborate with the project and 99% of them agree in the TAHRDP concept. In conclusion, it has been seen that the linkages between industrial sectors and academic sectors are insufficient. The Thai Auto Institute has to promote the TAHRDP more efficiently while Thai vocational education system has to be developed corresponding with auto manufacturers
