Abstract | Qvantel Corporation, a Finland based international company, provides flexible and reliable products for Business Support Solutions and Services for both network operators and virtual operators. The company has its current customer base in Finland, Sweden, Spain, and Denmark. This present study is a part of a larger project that has been initiated by Qvantel Corporation in order to assess the feasibility of its planned market entry into Asia, including India (as a part of its international expansion plan). This study was conducted under an extensive international University-Industry project between Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and Qvantel Corporation. Other partners in the project were: Jyväskylä Regional Development Company Jykes Ltd. and Jyväskylä Innovations, business development agencies in the City of Jyväskylä, Finland, and the University of Jyväskylä, an internationally acclaimed and dedicated scientific university in Finland. In the mobile telecommunications segment, various cellular providers rely on firms providing Business Support Solutions and Services to cater to certain business needs. The objective of the study was to examine potential opportunities and suitable strategies for Qvantel Corporation (provider of Business Support Solutions and Services) in the mobile phone market of India. This study looks into the recent telecommunication policy developments in India, and implications for the Indian mobile user as well as for telecommunication operators and service providers. Most of the important mobile operators in the country are analyzed and examined thoroughly. Recommendations for Qvantel’s mode of entry and points of focus are presented, based on implicit and explicit opportunities offered by each operator. General recommendations for the Qvantel’s entry are also given. |
