Abstract | Tourism development contributes to the national economy by generating foreign currency exchange, regional development and job creation. Recently, Myanmar tourism sector is significantly booming according to Ministry of Hotels and Tourism’s annual report. To sustain the tourism development, ecotourism is a good option for Myanmar which has plenty of natural resources and beautiful cultures. Among Myanmar vast wetlands, Moeyingyi Wetland Wildlife Sanctuary is Myanmar’s first internationally recognized as Important Wetland Area in Ramsar site. The lake is situated on the migratory birds flyway in winter season and is not far from Yangon which is the commercial city of Myanmar. Hence, it is the very convenient places for the tourists who love to see the nature of Myanmar in short period and distance. The aims of this study are to describe the current situation of Ecotourism in Moeyingyi Wetland , t o understand the reasons for tourist satisfaction which can retain Moeyingyi wetland marketability and popularity and t o understand how to market in Moeyingyi wetland to Ecotourist for the potential growth of visitors. Although the tourist arrival to Moeyingyi is increase d starting from 2011, it is still far behind the other countries’ wetlands tourist arrivals . Data was collected by questionnaire survey to the tourists and interviews with government officers from NWCD - MOECAF, SPA Resort and one tour company (Columbus Travel and Tour Company) . Based on the analysis o f data, recommendations were made for SPA Resort , Government Ministries and LNGOs/INGOs to develop ecotourism in Moeyingyi wetland by conserving the wetland. |
