| Abstract | Along with the developing trend of the world, Vietnam has been growing rapidly in economics, society, and industry. This development brings about the increasing of vehicles in urban causing many problems in transportation. PBS is considered a good solution for these problems. However, the available PBS is not good enough to supply the travelling demand. Addressing this matter, this research was conducted to partly help improving the PBS in BHC, one of the biggest cities in Vietnam. There were three main purposes of doing this research. First was to analyze the statistics of the recent bus system and doing survey on bus passengers. Second was to find out the problems and causes affecting the quality of the PBS in BHC. And third was to provide some suggestions to improve PBS in BHC for the three factors which involving in the operation of PBS. This research consists of six chapters: introduction, literature review, research methodology, and the current status of public bus system in Bien Hoa city, the problems and causes of PBS in BHC, conclusions and recommendations. This research described and analyzed the current status of PBS in BHC, its problems and causes. Furthermore, this research tried to recommend solutions to improve PBS, especially from the operational point of view. The quantitative and qualitative methods were both used in this study. The quantitative research method was used for assessing the performance of PBS and its effectiveness PBS in BHC. The quantitative method was also used for analyzing the problems causes of PBS. It was found out that the work of developing PBT plays an important role in the process of developing and municipal zing BHC. After many years of operating bus system, the bus quantity, line number, and passenger have been increasing year by year. However, besides of some achievements, PBS has some important weak points such as implicit threats of traffic jams caused by the looseness in controlling activities of bus-running operation. Besides, this management is not synchronous; the government has not published the description in managing and controlling activities of buses in an effective way. The employees who are working for bus companies do not paid much attention leading to messy statement and loosing passengers' trust. In order to improve the effectiveness of PBS, the synchronous coordination between the government (commuters, transportation department, management and controlling center), the operating companies and the citizens in doing several solutions for each related factors are necessary. |
