Abstract | Green Energy financing is one of the vehicle of diffusion of Renewable Energy. Globally lots of initiative took place on Green Energy Financing. Bangladesh is one of the country which recently embark on it. Due to power shortage and huge renewable energy potential, this country has shown tremendous growth in the green energy sector. Biggest growth is visible in the solar home systems. Solar photovoltaic (PV) systems are used throughout the country by an estimated 2.9 million plus household-level installations having a capacity of 122.2 MW (as of April 2014). Green energy finance is a subdivision of Green Banking initiative, a mandatory initiative imposed by Bangladesh Bank to all banking and non-banking financial institutions. The goal of this work is to identify the barriers and opportunities of mandatory green energy financing.SWOT with combination of analytical hierarchy process (AHP) was used for this purpose. Research shows that poor terms and conditions and inadequate financial incentives are the major barriers while raising awareness and policy revision are highly prioritized strategies to overcome the barriers. The evaluation of policy decisions and outcome of the study provides guidance to the policy makers in formulating better policies with respect to green energy equipment installation and use. |
