Abstract | This study access the SWOT-AHP approach to analyze the factors facilitating and impeding the renewable energy financing in Nepal. This research analyses the perspective of financial institutions to the topic. Nepal has a huge potential of Renewable Energy. While resorting to such source in the present time has become almost necessary, Nepal has been adapting to such sources for a very long time. In spite of the immense potential of Renewable energy source, Nepal has not been able to boost the finance through Financial Institution. It still comes as a major challenge and lack of understanding between the project owner and the FIs of Nepal. There are very few to No research for the Renewable Energy Financing through the viewpoint of the FIs. This research address the issue and provide solution to approach the FIs with RE projects. In depth survey and a Likert scale questionnaire survey was carried out. From the study we found that the factor facilitating are the bankable renewable projects in Nepal and the effective loan recovery system of the financial systems. While the factors that impede the renewable financing, the most were the lack of knowledge among financial institutions and the percentage of recoverable loan in renewables was lower than that of other loans. Based on these findings, four distinct strategies were suggested using the TOWS matrix; (SO) Promote and support the risk mitigation practices. (ST) Well Planned approach to Capacity building and Awareness Raising initiatives. (WO) Renewable Energy Financing Related Knowledge sharing Mechanism and Training. (WT) Regulating the RE sector as a mandatory loan deployment sector with increased cap on investment |
