Series Statement
AbstractSolar cookers of various varieties are available to consumers in terms of geometrical designs, performance and price. But , design guidelines for solar thermal based steam cooking system are not available . This paper will discuss about design procedure of each component and financial analysis of the system to gain user acceptance. In this study , the design of the cooking vessel, receiver and overall system layout are proposed. The steam flow rate, dimension of steam pipe and sizing of each components have been determined . Total required energy of 12.8MJ is attained at the receiver with 4.7 kg /hr steam flow rate . The location of the reflector is shown in a different perspective with the distinct and height of the receiver from the reflector. The efficiency of the cooker is around 57% and it is highly dependent on the available radiation . The financial status of this cooking system shows about 894,133 Baht of present worth with 2 years of payback period for the considered system . Tho ugh it has high initial investment, it can be recover ed in a short period of time and thus saving cost in the long run.
