Series Statement
AbstractThis research aimed to study the geothermal utilization for electricity generation in Thailand. The methodology adopted was as follows: first, study the geothermal utilization throughout the world, including the technologies and policies; second, study the status of geothermal energy utilization in Thailand; and finally, apply the recent advances to estimate the possible electricity generation capacity in Thailand. Based on the above procedure, it is shown that there are 9 areas of potential hot springs in Thailand that can contribute about 7.6 MWe of electricity with an investment cost of 750.5 million Baht using advanced binary cycle technology. Apart from utilization of geothermal energy for electricity, this study also analysed the related policies in order to improve the geothermal energy in Thailand. There should be financial mechanism supporting investors for implementing geothermal energy based power plants.
