Abstract | The Inle lake, being image of Myanmar’s heart, tradition, culture, tourist attraction, historical place and home to many species of flora and fauna, is a livelihood center for the people living in and around the lake . The purpose of this study was to assess the current environmental pollution in and around the Inle Lake for human health/ well - being and reduced vulnerability of communities with a view to sustainable environmental management. Specifically , it was (1) t o evaluate the current water and sanitation development in Inle lake , (2) t o identify specific combined human health/ well - being and biodiversity concerns and issues relevant to the environmental pollution in Inle Lake, and (3) to develop recommendation s an d guidelines for wetland management strategy for the local people in line with environmental awareness. The study was done in Inle lake catchment area for monitoring (1) current environmental pollution problems of the lake ecosystem (2) effects of imbalanced biodiversity on human well - being, which concurrently was related to the environmental pollution , and (3) mitigation measures for the identified problems mainly focus on water and sanitation , as well as (4) overview of current working organizations in Inle lake area. Field visit to Inle lake was done to provide a clearer picture of the current situation of the lake and the activities addressing biodiversity conservation and livelihood development, Interviews with personnel from some key NGOs and organizations were done to identify key issues and critical gaps in the activities being done. Many environmental issues contribution to the degradation of environmental services of the study areas were identified to be considered in the future Environmental Management Strategies, Recommendations were made for possible future AIT research and environmental pollution implications for human well - being and biodiversity. |
