Series Statement
AbstractThis research study report on an back analysis of soil stiffness parameters of an top-down excavation in Hanoi using Finite Element Method. Mohr-Coulomb Model and Hardening Soil Model are the two constitutive model of Plaxis 2D (ver. 8.5) that were employed to simulate and analyze the basement excavation of Westa Tower (Ha Dong, Hanoi, Vietnam). This study is focused on soil modulus, E, represent for soil stiffness, which are estimated from empirical correlations with SPT-N value, N30and undrained shear strength, cuof soil from in-situ and lab test. Drained analysis was applied for sand layer and undrained effective analysis with effective stiffness and undrained strength were applied for clay layer. The measured data from consultant were compiled and presented in graphical form to compare with the results outcomes of two models. The lateral wall movements predicted by Mohr-Coulomb Model was extraordinary in contrast of promising predicted by Hardening Soil Model. To meet the observation of lateral wall movements, the acquired soil modulus for clay layer in Mohr-Coulomb is incredible large. In addition, the prediction of ground surface settlements by using Hardening Soil Model is better and more realistic than Mohr-Coulomb Model which has the heave of ground on top of the diaphragm wall and wide trough of settlement.
