Abstract | With the development of technology, nowadays there is a lot of new techniques applications in civil engineering field as smart city, smart house, smart structure and health monitoring, long-term monitoring, etc. become very popular. It helpful to deeper understanding of structure’s behavior. Geotechnical engineering required to adopting the trend of new technique application, it also the priority concerning of Engineers and people who works on this field to solve difficult matters and unforeseen phenomenon, parameters, etc. especially the interaction between the structures and ground. This research is one of the study recording of progress to observing, studying and approaching to the advance, modern technique of monitoring use fiber optic sensor. To understanding on the theory and application of fiber optic sensor, especially it’s applications in geotechnical engineering in Korea and investigate the possibility to apply in Vietnam near future. Specifically, in this research, the main works were attended to implementing the test with fiber optic sensor, embedded in PHC pile to monitor the strain and temperature during the pile tests and working pile installation as well as long-term monitoring, implemented in South Korea. The principle of fiber optic and fiber optic sensor were studied and result of strain and temperature recorded has been used to evaluate how the fiber optic sensor working in PHC pile. The preliminary results from fiber sensor were well received and shown it is rather good working on PHC pile with liable result during the test of compress and bending. The long term monitoring data shall be continue monitored for further understanding about working pile. The result of this research is useful reference to the next full scale testing by fiber optic sensor in PHC pile or other possible applications of fiber optic sensor, especially in Vietnam. |
