Abstract | The tunneling technology in general, the microtunneling technology in particual are very useful for the development of Vietnam. By review on history and fundamental of the microtunneling technology and practice in Japan and others country where have high development in this technology, we can learn good lessons to apply this technology in Vietnam in an effective way . In this study, the microtunneling’s records, documents and standard were collected in Japan. And those was summarized and using for plan an assumption project in Vietnam. In Japan, microtunneling technology is divided into six majors depend the construction diameter. Anh this research focused on the closed face method in large and medium diameter. The major applications for microtunneling include new sewerage and drainage construction, sewer replacement and lining, gas and water mains, oil pipelines, electricity and telecommunications’ cable installation, and culverts. The technique can be used to negotiate obstacles such as motorways, railways, rivers, canals, buildings and airfields in the path of pipe laying projects ; to minimize the surface disruption frequently associated with open cut pipe laying methods in urban areas; or simply to provide a permanent underground tunnel construction. Two main type of machine which are used in microtunneling are earth balance pressure (EBP) machine and slurry machine. EBP machine is widely used in large diameter while the slurry machine is widely used in small and medium diameter. Because in small and medium diameter, the spoil removal work is easy by used slurry machine. There are two ways of maximising the length of drive. The first is to inject suitable lubricants between pipe and soil, which can greatly reduce the skin friction. The second is to install intermediate jacking stations in the line of the pipe . By overview the technology in Japan by assumption project, we can see an overall picture of microtunneling technology. This study can be used for next detail research about microtunneling technology |
