Abstract | The Cao Lanh bridge will be constructed over the Tien river in Mekong delta, Vietnam. For the bridge foundation, The test pile were construct ed to 117 m depth with diameter of 2.5 m. Due to the thick soft clay depth and long pile of high capacity by application of double-level O-cell test was required for which, the pile was divided into three parts (lower, middle and upper) that have to be investigated separately. The first O-cell testing was performed in 2014 and it failed to meet the design requirement for pile capacity. Therefore the test pile was improved by shaft grouting technique to enhance the pile capacity and the second O-cell testing for the test pile with shaft grouting was conducted to assess the effectiveness of shaft grouting method. In this study, the results of O-ce ll test in 2014 and 2015 were analyzed to determine the side friction and pile capacity. By comparison it was found that the pile capacity increased from 23.3MN to 43.9MN, the skin friction increased from 1.7 to 2.8 times after shaft grouting, one could see that the significant effect of enhancement of pile capacity by shaft grouting technique |
