Series Statement
AbstractGranitic basement reservoirs have been intere sted in the Asia Pacific region in recent years, following several new oil and gas discoveries in this complex reservoir type. Unlike the other types of fractured reservoir, the fractured basement reservoirs have no primary porosity. All the pore spaces in the rock are formed through fracturing and diagenetic processes. The resulting pore structure heterogeneity makes the formation very difficult to evaluate. Another complicating factor is the lithology, where the granite composition can vary and sub-vertical extrusive dykes cause abrupt lateral variations in matrix properties. Then, the estimation of the porosity and permeabilty in the fractured granitic reservoirs is very complicated and difficult. In this research, an improved methodology is proposed to estimate the porosity and permeabily in fractured granite basement by application of the multi-mineral method (BasRock program). This method is used widely in many companies in Cuu Long basin. A case study from the Hai Su Den structure in Block 15-2/01 is used to illustrate the workflow. The image log interpretation, advanced acoustic measurements, nuclear logs and production logs are combined with well test data to derive the best possible evaluation of the fracture network around the borehole . The advantages and limitations of the proposed study and the forward plans for further work in this kinds of complex fractured granite basement are also discussed in this study.
