Series Statement
AbstractGeopressured formations pose significant threats to drilling safety and the cost of mitigation. The proper planning before drilling is a key to lowering costs and increasing safety. In this regard, we describe an integrated project using offset well drilling data, petrophysical log interpretation and seismic velocity analysis to provide pore pressure assurance for well planning on the study site, where, over pressured conditions are known in the Syn-rift reservoir units of Oligocene age. Together with data of ten drilled wells in the stud y site and an application of using 3D seismic data based on the seismic attributes such as velocities and amplitudes, the two wells HSNW-1X and HSBW-1X desire a practice to predict pore pres sure before drilling from conventional seismic stacking velocities with a normal compaction trend analysis using the well-known Eaton approach (Eaton’s method). Pore pressure is calculated as the difference between overburden stress and effective stress. In particular, the full waveform inversion yields Poisson's ratios those are useful not only for pressure and fracture gradient estimations but also for lithology and fluid identification. The procedure yields a detail of pr e-drill pore pressure images with significant clarity as well as pressure versus depth profiles appropriate for dr illing applications. This technique is the real applicable to pose drilling hazards and bring the great profit to Oil Company in Cuu Long Basin.
