Abstract | In recent years, the oil production in Vietnam has followed a decreasing trend, while that of gas production is exactly reversed. Consequently, gas reservoirs should be developed to supplement the deficit caused by the decreasing oil. The study structure (X) is located in Red River basin, Northern Vietnam. It has been discovered with 13 gas reservoirs and is soon to be in the development phase. A geological model is necessary to estimate the hydrocarbon initial in place, to select most appropriate appraisal/production wells locations, and to manage the reservoirs and maximize production when it comes to production stage. In this research, a 3D static geological model was constructed based on seismic and well data. Due to the lack of data, as only one well was drilled in the structure, a good number of geological and petrophysical parameters used in modeling have to be adjusted by trial and error to fit with some practical situations. The model was then recalibrated to match the facies distribution as found from analysis of acoustic impedance data. In facies modeling, the focus was on distributary channel environment with its elements. The study is expected to establish a geological modeling workflow for clastic reservoirs with an emphasis on facies modeling method. |
