Series Statement
AbstractThis research study deals with analysis of the lithofacies and facies association for an Oligocene clastic reservoir in Cuu Long basin by using borehole image logging data. The usual method which geologist used to carry out is analysis of conventional cores. But coring could cover only a short interval, say, a few meters per one well such as 10 to 30 m. Moreover, acquiring core is very expensive. Nowadays, due to the development of technology, there is another way for geologist to do facies analysis, using borehole image logging data. In this study, an approach to analyze facies and facies association by using Borehole Imaging logging data was introduced and applied for case study in the Cuu long basin. The results of the study include the facies association represented of depositional environment and palaeocurrents for each sand body of logging interval in Oligocene clastic revervoir about 4000m deep. Image facies interpretation was used together with tadpole analysis methods. Dip picking analysis and depositional environment analysis were carried out. As the result for the research well Oil-3X, the depositional environment of Oligocence E sequence has been described in details. From bottom to top of study interval, 4 facies associations were interpreted as; FA1 – fluvial/alluvial fan. FA2 – marginal lacustrine environments and distributive delta tops. FA3 – near shore lacustrine (mostly prodelta deposits) FA4 – offshore lacustrine (open/distal lake) The analysis also revealed the dominant sediment dispersal direction to the South West. This approach of geological interpretation is expected to be helpful to geologist in oil and gas company to understand better the Hydrocarbon field as well as to do a better geological modelling.
