Abstract | Fast growth of tissue production and consumption worldwide strive the hardwood pulps producer to compete in this market. Acacia and eucalyptus provide high opacity, strength, smoothness, fibers population and fiber collapsibility . Therefore, acacia low Kap pa number, acacia high Kappa number, eucalyptus A, eucalyptus B, eucalyptus C are chosen to evaluate. Since the research was done in laboratory scale, the results show that acacia low kappa number has several advantages which can overlap the eucalyptus pulps. It gives excellent beat ability and opacity while it also has high strength properties, water absorbency capacity and fiber population. Meanwhile, acacia high Kappa number gives excellent smoothness and high beat ability, opacity, and fiber population bu t it has slightly low bulk. Eucalyptus A gives excellent air permeability and high tensile index but with slightly low water absorbency capacity, very low opacity, and poor smoothness. Eucalyptus C gives excellent water absorbency capacity and high beat ability but it has very low smoothness . However, eucalyptus B does no t give any excellent value which only high in bulk, tear index , and air permeability followed by slightly low opacity, very low beat ability, and poor tensile index. Thus, acacia low Kappa n umber is the most suitable hardwood for facial tissue raw material. |
