AbstractCompetitiveness underlies the economic growth of nations which have a direct impact toward industries or firms. Competitiveness becomes a public concern of every company in today's competitive era and those companies that do not realize this distress will find themselves struggling to find customers and to make profits. Thailand leather industries has been facing difficulties from competition and ever demanding consumers on higher quality at the cheaper price. The leather sector of Thailand has shown the decline of export trade value while most of the competitors are enjoying the increase in market shares as well as the higher trade value. Although Thailand leather products used to be one of the ten most exported goods for Thailand, since year 2000, the industry have been continuously declining. Therefore, in order to enhance the competitiveness of the industry, the author analyzed from the most basic factors or affects that could have from, for example, the external analysis of which includes Porter's Five Force Model and Porter Diamond Model. And then, the author studied further in-depth of how the domestic firms are competing and the author also examined their strengths and weaknesses. With this analysis, the author discovered many areas that Thai firms have and should take this opportunity and improve them, for instance, the skills of Thai workforce are internationally perceived as one of the best in this region. However, there are many more aspects that firms need to improve on, for instance, the management skills or the company's system. Along with that, the author made further studies on the world's leaders of the leather industry in different segments; for instance, Italy is the leader in the high-end segment whereas China is the leader of the lower-end segment. This research explained the reasons behind their success and how Thai firms can study from their success factors. Last but not least, the recommendations were made by integrating all the suggestions from the experts of how the overall industry can improve the competitiveness in order to retaliate the international threats
