Abstract | The mobile telecommunication industry of Bangladesh has been showing tremendous growth in recent years. The major reasons for this high growth are current low density and deregulation policies in the telecommunication sector, fall in handset prices and unsatisfactory communication infrastructure over the country. The total number of mobile phone users in Bangladesh was more than 45 million in February 2009. Government's deregulation policies and foreign investment incentives in the mobile telecommunication sector has encouraged many giant global players to enter into Bangladeshi market. There has been increased competition over time in the mobile phone market of Bangladesh. Qvantel Corporation, a major telecommunication services provider company positions itself as a 'relationship leader' and its intension is to offer the highest level of commitment to its customers. The company develops its products based on customer needs and the company gives top priority to customers' involvement during the products development stages. Qvantel Corporation's motto of "we grow as you grow" allows Qvantel Corporation to follow the 'service bureau model' of sharing customers' revenues depending on the customers' utilization of services from the company over time. The objective of this present paper is to examine potential opportunities and suitable strategies for Qvantel Corporation in the mobile phone market of Bangladesh. In spite of having a moderate political risk, the overall business environment of Bangladesh is very friendly for foreign investors. Qvantel Corporation could enter into the mobile telecommunication market of Bangladesh as many factors show that this market has a good potential. An appropriate modification of the products and strategies of Qvantel Corporation should be made before entering to the Bangladeshi telecommunication market |
