AbstractPakistan has a large number of trading partners but still bulk of its e xports are concentrated in few countries including USA, Germany, Japan, UK, Hong Kong, Dubai and Saudi Arabia which account for nearly half of its exports. Pakistan exports the most to United States followed by UK and Germany. Exports can uplift an economy tremendously and this fact has become the corner stone of policy making in Pakistan primarily to achieve strong export - led growth. The general objective of the paper is to describe the composition of Pakistan exports of three major sectors i.e. Agricult ure, manufacturing and minerals & oil se ctors. T he specific objective is to test the impact of economy sizes (of countries), their relative distance from Pakistan on its bilateral trade with them. For this obje ctive an extended gravity model of trade is us ed, in order to incorporate the qualitative factors as control variables. Using a panel data analysis, the results show that in general the model has good explanatory power. Almost all the coefficients of the basic gravity equation variables are statistica lly significant and have expected signs. The most seemingly interesting result is in terms of common b order but this result is comprehensible in terms of Pakistan. Among OECD member countries Pakistan’s exports are more with those members with whom it shar es common official language viz. Australia, Canada, New Zealand, UK and USA . The estimation results of decades are quite similar for different variables but are not consistent from one decade to the other.
