Abstract | In the era of high development and production costs, high volatile of oil and gas price and instability of oil and gas supply, oil and gas companies have to carefully select strategic and implementation plan in order to survive in the high competitive industry. As a result, most of the oil and gas adopt mergers, acquisition and alliances as their strategies. However, adopting the same strategic plan, with the different timing and place the strategies in real practice contexts and its result differ. However, for National Oil Companies (NOCs) case, local government plays the crucial role on oil and gas industry.Oil and gas considered as the strategic assets at the national level and as the crucial factorsto national economy, especially for the high growth developing countries like China and India. The strategic plan to pursue growth through mergers, acquisition and alliances are both serve both the NOCs’ and government’s goals. However, the ultimate decisions rely on NOCs management’s palms. The company can choose to do merger, acquisition or alliances. Apparently, oil and gas companies evaluate and analyze systematically to pursue their strategic plans in terms o f investment scope and the best action plan to well-balance the investment portfolio. The choice of investment portfolio closely related to risks involved of the investment. Oil and gas investments are long term investment. The outcomes in terms of improvement and positive impacts can only be seen clearly after a period of time. |
