Abstract | By acquiring internationally-recognized process best practices, the software organizations are able to promote their success in the global market and to cope with the significant issues of quality and productivity followingan increase incomplexity and size of application. Over the decades, the new invention of standards, approaches, and models, then, have been releasedto stimulate the software firmsto servethis higher expectation of qualityconcern. Offering the best practices to ensure the acceptable quality level in the areas of feasibility, adaptability, reusability, and maintainability, Capability MaturityModel Integration(CMMI) definitely provides the internationalmanagement tool for the development and maintenance processes in softwareorganizations. Even directly promoting and recognizing its advantages of CMMI in Thailand by many government agencies(e.g. Software Park, NECTEC, SIPA, etc.), onlyresearches in the U.S. and other countriesfound that CMMI offerssoftware organizationspractically-verified outcomes(e.g. the better planning/estimation and the productqualityimprovement). In return, CMMI-processimprovement can contributesome negative impacts on software processes. Now, more than 30 enterprises in Thailand certified CMMI with maturitylevel from 2 to 5 and most of them are receivedthe CMMI level 3. Interestingly, from IT practitioners‟ perceptionthemselves, not the companies, very few studies still concernedto systematically assess a variety of realimpacts of CMMI in several dimensions, especially Project Management,to proveIT executives‟ and agencies‟expectation. Thevery new research study, therefore, appropriately and timely respond this current situation to examine the possible outcomes of CMMI. This research also aims to develop the sensible framework for evaluating the CMMIperformances, including to simultaneously learningaboutCMMI benefits related toProject Managementon CMMI-level-3 based enterprisesfrom IT practitioners in several positionsin Thailandonly.Regarding the research resultsfrom most of respondents, CMMI could provide the satisfying benefits to Overall Project Management in software enterprises in the areas of Integration Management associatedfromplanning to closing the project, Cost/Budget Management, Quality Management, Risk Management, and Procurement Management. Concurrently, the study also found that the larger size of companies respondents workedfor, the slightly lowerperception level of CMMI contributions to Project Managementthe respondents probably provided. |
