Abstract | Computerized travel distribution networks called global distribution systems have been operational since 1960s. Online travel agencies came into existence in 1990s with the emergence of world wide web. In this day and age, u se of technology - driven strategies are very important for travel indu stry. This study attempts to evaluate if online travel agencies dominate the distribution channel for hotels. The research was conducted to assess above st atement. A survey of more than 25 hotels was conducted . For in - depth a nalysis, 3 hotels f rom Canada, 2 from Vietnam and 3 from Thailand, and 1 from Pakistan participated. These hotels shared their share of online travel agenc y bookings and direct internet bookings along with methods of online marketing that have suited them well. After a comprehensive review of online travel agencies‟ impact on hotels, key practical issues were raised . Majority of the issues arise because of not following terms and conditions of the agreement s between online travel agencies and hotels. Some problems are due to the behavior and un derstanding of decision makers. Hotels need to create their own online presence in order to gain incremental business. Good online presence would allow the hotels to secure direct business which are discussed in this study |
