Abstract | Innovation creation capability is one of most crucial job to accomplish renewal, survival and growth of firms. Traditionally, product or process innovation was internally developed, but later open innovation concept was introduced and proposed that, to advance their technologies, firms could and would utilize external as well as internal ideas and paths to market. The concept was neglected in Thailand context albeit known elsewhere. Also, process innovation relevance to openness was disregarded in previous researches. Hence, this research was aimed at documenting open and process innovation implementation given a Thai conglomerate, and pin - pointing factors contributing to success of such implementation. This research was based on interviews and qualitative analysis was applied, leading to six propositions which center on innovation sources, type of openness, development process, current core capabilities evaluation, adoption of process innovativeness’s management techniques like total quality management, and knowledge dissemination in a firm and across the firm’s network. Key success factors of implementing open and process innovation were creation of strong bond with universities and pubic research institutions while building innovative culture, deployment of innovation management tools and unification of innovation process with observation on potential technologies and usage of scenario techniques, core capabilities evaluation, organization of explicit, planned structure and enabling emerging structure for knowledge management, and improving processes thought management techniques like ISO 9001 |
