Abstract | This research focuses on the case of TOT International bandwidth. With an upgrade of the monitoring software (CACTI), numerical data is obtained with a I-minute time resolution from September 25th 2008 to March 1th 2009. A maximum of 17 links are monitored and considered aggregated. The international bandwidth usage is examined to highlight different properties: inbound and outbound traffic usages, periodicity, etc. The busy hour is then investigated for dimensioning and planning. Several methods are used; ADPH gives the highest traffic rate, then TCBH and FDMH respectively. CACTI performs data measurements with several time resolutions but the average is identical for all time scales, and so is the busy hour. However, the variance decreases with coarser time scales. Consequently, the property of self-similarity is investigated by plotting variance versus time and observing the Hurst parameter. The co-existence of both self-similar and random processes is pointed out. Finally, curve fitting models are applied for forecasting, showing that the ADSL growth is logistic with a saturation value of 1.4 million, and the peak bandwidth growth is linear. However, the trend can be altered depending on supplementary factors such as customer satisfaction and marketing campaigns. |
