AbstractThe demand for broadband mobile wireless communication is increasing day by day and new real time and non real time applications are gaining more popularity such as VoD, video conferencing, e-shopping etc. Future network will be a global communication network in which all broadband multi-services can be provided to mobile users any where and any time by an integrated terrestrial-satellite land mobile satellite system. This research study performs BER analysis for the integrated terrestrial-satellite land mobile satellite system (LMSS). As the main challenge for integrated terrestrial-satellite land mobile satellite system is to ensure seamless integration of two systems without compromising targeted quality of service (QoS). In this research study we propose an integrated terrestrial-satellite LMSS model. This model highlights the working scenario of LMSS. In analysis we calculate the transmit power requirement of mobile user when it is handed over to satellite network. We evaluate the performance of LMSS in term of BER. In this scenario in order to maintain the same BER as in that case when mobile user was communicating through terrestrial system, we observed the effect of different physical layer parameters such as Rician fading channel at different value of Rice factor, different modulation schemes and different coding rates. It is observed that due to transmit power limitation of the mobile user and huge path loss between mobile user and satellite, uplink carrier to noise ratio is limited. Therefore it is very critical to maintain the targeted BER for a particular service.
