Abstract | This research study investigates noise margin improvement on Dynamic Spectrum Management (DSM) level-1 in DMT-based DSL systems. It is known that iterative water-filling algorithm, which is one of the algorithms in DSM level-1, can increase both data rates and service areas of DSL lines. However, the algorithm also has a number of drawbacks. One important drawback is the reduction in noise margin in DSL lines. In this research, an alternative power allocation algorithm, called the margin-maximization algorithm, is proposed to improve the noise margin for the multi-user power allocation problem in a frequency-selective interference channel. The proposed algorithm is based on fixed-rate margin maximization, and is shown to provide a better noise margin compared to the conventional iterative water-filling algorithm. |
