AbstractSince the advent of multicarrier wireless optical communications, high average power is one of the major challenges in its efficient implementation. This research addresses one possible solution of this problem by implementing a version of selected mapping (SLM) technique for reduction in average transmit power in multicarrier wireless optical communications. SLM is a promising and well-known technique used for reducing peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) in conventional orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. In this research, its implementation is tested by using all possible phase combinations of phase sequences of length 4. The approach proposed here provides reasonable gains in average power reduction at acceptable additional complexity. In addition, we attempt to find a reasonable set of phase sequence values by testing multiple choices of phase sequence values to find their reduction in average power.
