| Abstract | This research study investigates about performance analysis of Ku - band and Ka - band satellite links with prediction of rain attenuation in Makassar, Indonesia. Makassar is one of the big cities in Indonesia and poses the capital of South Sulawesi Province. To support telecommunication services, several telecommunica tion companies have placed earth stations for satellite communication services in Makassar. Recent trends of satellite services is to employ Ku - band and Ka - band satellite link. As a region which has high rain rate, design of Ku - band and Ka - band satellite link in Makassar require s prediction of rain attenuation as a major problem in propagation for these bands. The analysis is carried out by applying Chebil and Moupfouma model for calculat ing rain rate cumulative distribution as well as applying five models for rain attenuation prediction. The result of analysis obtains that ITU – R P.618 – 8 model is the suitable model for Makassar area. The usage of Ku - band link in Makassar can still give the high availability of 99.9%, whereas Ka - band only give the availability of 98 %. |
