Abstract | There has been a growing interest in using indoor optical wireless communication (OWC) systems for both illumination and communication purposes. One practical system parameter of an indoor OWC system is its data transmission coverage distance. This research study attempts to quantify the coverage distance by modeling white light emitting diodes (LEDs) using the commercial software ASAP, which performs ray tracing from light sources to optical receivers. Using the 3-dB power reduction as the criterion to quantify the coverage distance, an optimal LED separation of a transmit LED panel is specified. |
