AbstractThis study is about how university student’s psychological attitudes among transportation modes relates with their plan of future commuting mode choice after they getting jobs. The result comparison was done by across Thailand and Sri Lanka. 400 data were collected from university students in both countries. First objective is analysis of the dimensions of attitudes among public transportation, Private car and private motorcycle. Attitudes were measured by using 31 believes which is in bipolar adjectives. Principle component analysis shows that 31 believes can be deduct to 4 latent factors (dimensions) such as “symbolic affective” (which means deeper emotional feeling and social class of the travel mode), “Social orderliness”(which means quietness, environmental friendliness, safety etc.), “Instrumental”(represent about functional attributes of the mode choice)and “Speed” (speed function of the travel mode). Second objective is to determine the relationship between the dimensions and university student’s future plan of commuting mode choice after getting a job. Multinomial logit analysis was done. Mode choice input as dependent variable and 4 dimensions used as explanatory variables. This analysis obtains main findings. First one is no attitude dimension significant in mode choice except social orderliness factor for public transportation mode in Sri Lankan model.
