AbstractBiodegradable material and packaging have important properties of environmentally degradable polymers. They emerge on the markets in many countries and certainly have the potential for driving economics. Consequently, biodegradable development has been continuously encouraged to support for commerce and environmental conservation. This study aims to assess the chance of production and marketing trends of biodegradable packaging and materialsin Thailand. The first part is the review of assessment of biodegradable situation in Pathumthani, Thailand. Most people realized on environmental conservation and marketing factors. The use of containers compares conventional type and biodegradable type in term of kinds of containers, types of material and places. Moreover, use and expense of biodegradable material and packaging are estimated in term of individuals, households and business & commerce. The second part presents empirical study of user groups on chance of developing biodegradable packaging in Thailand. Users in Prachathibhat tambon accept the importance of environmental labels and natural ink. Users agreed that biodegradable packaging should develop to intelligent (smart) biodegradable food packaging. Users believed that general plastic bags are causes of pollution, resulting in high use of bioplastic bag for environmental conservation. The third part evaluates in-depth interviews on the direction of biodegradable development in Thailand. It focuses on micro drive, macro drive, technology and market development. Institutes in Thailand participate in biodegradable development. Finally, the assessment and opportunities of production and marketing trends of biodegradable packaging and materialsin Thailand are concluded and some recommendations are offered for further study.
