Abstract | Oil palm is a ne w plant ation in the study area due to the promotion of oil palm plantation by government subsidy f or biodiesel production in the Northeast region since 2005 . This feasibility study focused on oil palm cultivation, production, market and financial analysis between oil palm and jasmine rice of 10 rai at Na Chaluai district, Ubon Ratchat h ani province , Thailand. T he climate is rather not a ppropriate d for cultivation of palm oil in Ubon Ratchat h ani but it f ace d insufficient water during dry season that it cause d low yield. The cultivation characteristic s of the study area were rather well described because the agricu ltural office trained farmers. Na Chaluai sub - district is the larger of the oil palm plantation area with in the study area and better production tha n other sub - districts. However, the average production was rather low when compared with South ern region because lack of water and well handling. The study area was lack ing of market and no processing factory in the Northeast region, which lead to high tra nsportation cost. The local market (Emerald Triangle Cooperative) was an advantage for farmers because they have the bargaining power. The financial analysis of investment in oil palm and jasmine rice plantation of 10 rai, the end of this project was 25 ye ars. Using the discount rate was 7% per year. From the result found that the net present value ( NPV ) of oil palm and jasmine rice plantation was 655,155 baht and 187,906 baht , respectively. The internal rate of return ( IRR ) , there were 16.39% of oil palm p lantation and 19.72% of the jasmine rice plantation. The benefit cost ratio ( BCR ) was 2.29 of oil palm plantations and 1.34 of jasmine rice plantations. Moreover, payback period ( PB ) of oil palm plantation was 6 years 10 months and 5 years 7 months of jasm ine rice plantation. The investment cost of oil palm was higher than jasmine rice, but in the long term oil palm was better than jasmine rice. The sensitivity analysis of decreasing income affected jasmine rice plantation more than oil palm plantation that shown on IRR of this project near the value of the discount rate ( 7%) . The best case was better than other cases because high investment and taking care. |
