AbstractASEAN has become one of the most powerful and important regional group in Asia inrecent years. To ensure and confirm their powerful economic presence, ASEAN leadershave agreed to speed up the establishment of ASEAN Economic Communityfrom 2020 to2015. One of the main objectives here is to create a single market with free flow of goods, services, capital, labor and investment. Thailand, as a key member of ASEAN, has alreadyacted on the signed agreement of reducing tariff to 0% in allitems except those in sensitivelists. However, other members including Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos and Vietnam will becompleting the 0% reduction in 2015. In addition, Thailand has been facing obstacles fromthe implementations and impacts of non-tariff barriers from other trading partners as theybelieve these non-tariff barriers will protect their localsupply andproduction. This leads toa deep concern about Thailand’s readiness and preparation for AEC 2015. Furthermore, theimpact of the AEC 2015 towardsThailand’s most important agricultural product, rice, isdiscussed here.In this thesis, 200 surveys from three different target groups those arefarmers, scholars and students were recorded and analyzed by the SPSS program.Interestingly, the resultshowspositive responses towards the concept of joining AEC.Nevertheless, it also presentsthe level of concerns regarding the readinessand preparationsfrom the government sector as well as major obstacles are also raised. Finally, based on theresults andanalysis of the survey conducted, recommendations, suggestions and roadmapsare provided for further improving Thailand’s performances and readiness towards theAEC 2015
