Abstract | This study was conducted to analyze the context and management capabilities of Fair Trade Pineapple Producers' Community Enterprise which was Fair Trade certified by Fairtrade Original (FLO). Furthermore, the study also evaluate the internal and external factors affecting the empowerment and development of the community enterprise under Fairtrade. The community enterprise model, SWOT analysis and Hierarchical Multiple Regression Analysis (MRA) are applied to be a data analysis techniques in the study. The case study is Fairtrade Pineapple Producers' Community Enterprise in Prachuap Khiri Khan, which is the largest canned pineapple production province in Thailand. fifty selected members were surveyed out of a total in the group of pineapple growers. The study shows that the group has a good division of functions and responsibilities, For the production, the farmers in the group had an average production quantity about 200 tons per year and 4 tons per rai of yield. In some year, the pineapple production was possibility produce to 6-8 tons per rai. However, the cultivation depended on the natural water and environment. The members cultivated pineapple for a long time. Processed products of the group are canned pineapple and pineapple juice concentrate including Nam Dok Mai mango (Fresh) and Chok Anan mango (Processing)which are exported. The major markets of the products from the group are EU, German, Australia, Switzerland and Italy. The group also receives Fairtrade Premiums, which is beneficial to the group. The Fairtrade premium is used to improve many aspects of the farmers’ lives including helping the less fortunate in the community and increasing the knowledge of farmers. The important strengths of the enterprise are the leadership performance, management system capability and continually supported by the cooperative. The important weaknesses are the leadership of committee and English skill for communication. The obvious opportunities are less of production competitors and a good community surrounding. The critical threats are the injustice of processing industry and the specific market. The overview of the potentiality of the community enterprise is in an excellent level. However, when carefully examine in each factor, the group also has some dimensions to improve. First is the market management, and second is the community enterprise development. There are3 indicators which has the highest score; the governance of community enterprise, Planning of community enterprise operations and member services and administration. For the factors affecting the empowerment of the community enterprise, there are 6 factors which related to the empowerment of the community enterprise significantly. These are the number of activities, satisfaction of enterprise, problem management, increasing the revenue, acquiring additional market and premium money allocation. Fair trade market has grown rapidly during the past. The government sector, the community enterprise, the entrepreneurs and the certificated organization should play a role in proving the clarity and transparency of Fairtrade products in order to build the confidence of consumers, and promote the growth of Fairtrade market in the long run. |
