Abstract | The general practice of sugarcane farmers are use burning field to remove the crop residue lead to the loss of soil organic matter and air pollution. The burning practice was also affected loss of loses of cane weight and sucrose, a reduction of ratoon growth, and increase ratoon management cost. This practice was use because of lack of time and labor consuming and the no effective existing tools. To overcome these, the powered - disc harrow was introduced to till and mixing crop residue for soil preparation of new crop planting. The evaluation of performance of powered - disc harrow, effect of soil properties and chopping efficiency experiment were sated which the different combination of forward; Low gear 1, 2 and 3 and disc speeds; 75, 100 and 125 rpm. The experiments were conducted in sandy loam soil. It was found that the different combination speeds did not affect the soil properties such as bulk density, cone index and soil pulverization of powered - disc harrow. The length of crop residue was higher when operated at high rotational speed with increasing forward speed, while the cutting was very smooth for all condition. The tractor wheel slip was better than the normal disc harrow. Depth of tillage, fuel consumption and soil reaction were better at higher rotational speed, while torque and PTO power requirement were better at higher forward speed. |
