Abstract | The overall objective of the study w as to a ssess the current touris m situation in the Sirindhorn International Environm ental Park an d its potential for ecotourism developm ent based on its natural environm ent. The study us ed key inf orm ant interview com bined with questionn air e surveys to colle ct d ata. Sim ple de scriptive s tatis tics were us ed to de scr ibe th e curren t situa tion of the p ark an d weight m ean index was used as an ana lytica l tool to asses s the overall perception and opinion of respondent s for sustainable ecotourism developm ent. The research revealed that the cond ition of the park landscape and natural resources is satisfacto ry for ecotourism developm ent. The place th at attracts m ost tourists to co me to the park is Mrigadav an Palace, follo wed by the Sirindhorn m angrove plantation, its natural view and the m angrove forest. Furtherm ore, the knowledge on ecotourism of the respondents is considered in m oderate to high level and has the potentia l to becom e a great ecotourism place in the future. This study also used TAT guidelines to assess the po tential of ecotourism developm ent of the park and the resu lts shows th at the park can be considered in group A which m eans that it has very high potential for ecotourism developm ent. In conclusion, the Sirindhor n International Environm enta l Park has a potential to develop ecotourism based on the natural resource and cultural heritage which attract people to visit th e park. |
