AbstractThis study evaluates the effect of Butea superba crude extract on sex reversal from male to female, and also tries to determine the optimum dose to induce the sex reversal on Orange - spotted grouper ( Epinephelus coioides ) A crude extract from the tuber roots was dehydrated and the phytoandrogen compounds were calculated. Then, four treatments with different doses (3, 4, 5 and 6 mg of phytoandrogen per kg) were kept in the same tank and implanted every month Butea superba crude extract pellets during four months. A group control without implants and anothe r with MT pellets were also kept in the same tank. Every month fish were cannulated to check the state of the gonads under a compound microscope. There were no differences between treatments; all fish checked reverse the sex to males. Sex reversal was comp leted satisfactory in the four treatments from 3 to 6mg of crude extract per kg of fish in mature females from 2.5 to 4.4 kg.
